About the Authors

Major Joseph Martin is a U.S. Army Special Forces Officer with a distinguished record of service. His assignments include several commands and key staff positions within the Special Forces community. He was the Detachment Commander responsible for starting the Special Operations Preparation & Conditioning (SOPC) Course, which prepares initial entry training soldiers for success at Special Forces Assessment and Selection. Prior to that, he served with the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) for three and a half years as a Detachment Commander, Assistant Operations Officer and Logistics Officer. He has conducted Special Forces and Counter Narcotics training missions in Honduras, Ecuador and Colombia. He just finished serving as the Commander of the Military Freefall School for the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School and is now assigned to the Pentagon while serving as a Special Operations Action Officer.

Major Martin is a graduate of Canisius College, earning a Bachelor's of Science in Business Management. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the Special Forces Qualification Course, U.S. Army Ranger School, the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, the Static Line Jumpmaster Course, and the Military Freefall Jumpmaster Course. He is a life member of the Special Forces Association (M-9129).

Master Sergeant Rex Dodson is a Special Forces Non-Commissioned Officer who retired with over 20 years of active service. He was the Team Sergeant for Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 773 for almost three years. With over 16 years in Special Forces, Rex has served in a variety of positions including: Weapons Sergeant, Intelligence Sergeant, Maritime Operations Specialist, Operations NCO, and Force Modernization NCO. Prior to joining Special Forces, he served four years as a reconnaissance scout and sniper in the army's Guard of Honor,the 82nd Airborne Division.

During his career, he has deployed on numerous Counter Narcotics and Foreign Internal Defense missions to a variety of countries in South America including El Salvador, Honduras, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. In support of the War on Terrorism, he has deployed to Afghanistan and Qatar.

He graduated the Special Forces Qualification Course as the honor graduate of the Weapons Sergeants course in 1989. His other training includes: U.S. Army Ranger School (Leadership Awardee), Static Line Jumpmaster, Combat Diver, Dive Supervisor, Primary Leadership Development Course (Honor Graduate), the Basic & Advanced NCO Courses, Special Forces Operations & Intelligence Sergeants Course, Advanced Special Operations Techniques and Basic Close Combat Instructor.

Since retiring, Rex has conducted several deployments to Iraq with the Wexford Group in support of the Joint IED Task Force.
